b.What is typhoon?

A typhoon or tropical storm, is a tropical cyclone that forms in the northwestern Pacific Ocean or South China Sea. The basin is demarcated within the Pacific Ocean from Asia, north of the equator, and west of the international date line.

A tropical cyclone is a storm system characterized by a large low pressure center and numerous thunderstorms that produce strong winds and flooding rain.

As a typhoon, a hurricane or a cyclone is a tropical cyclone(TC) that forms in some other places of the world. The term “Hurricane” is most often used for TCs occurring in the Atlantic and eastern Pacific Oceans, and the term “Cyclone” is most often used for TCs occurring in other areas of Oceans on the world.

c.How does a typhoon (or saying a TC) form?【加注2：仅简述TC形成的条件，没有深入论及形成的具体机制。毕竟要扯到CISK，听讲的多数人会晕的】

The formation of tropical cyclones is the topic of extensive ongoing research and is still not fully understood. However, six factors appear to be generally necessary for the formation of TCs.

They are:

1. high water temperatures(at least 26.5 °C or 79.7 °F ) down to a depth of at least 50 metres (160 ft);【高SST】

2. rapid cooling with height;【云顶温度随高度的迅速降低】

3. high humidity;【高湿度】

4. low amounts of wind shear;【低风切变】

5. enough far away from the equator to make the Coriolis effect;【距离赤道有一定距离，以使科氏力生效】

6. pre-existing system of disturbed weather.【有初始扰动】

Tropical cyclones, or saying typhoons, may occasionally form without meeting all of the above conditions.【有时候可能不需要满足上述所有条件，也能形成TC】

d.Paths of typhoons

After formation, typhoons often take paths follow the following 3 general directions:

1. Straight    example:Saomai 2006
A general westward path affects the Philippines, southern China, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
  
2. Recurving    example:Maemi 2003
Storms recurving affect eastern China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan.

3. Northward
From point of origin, the storm follows a northerly direction, only affecting small islands.

Typhoons often make destruction to human beings' homestead. When they land on or even influence us just by nearing, human beings could suffer from torrential rain, storm and surge. The intense wind can destroy buildings and uprooted trees. Torrential rain can cause floods. And surge can cause sinkings of ships.【此处漏了动词，请风筝自行补上。下面加黑体的字也是原件所漏】

If some place is not too far away from or not too near a typhoon, the weather there might be sunny, extremely hot and dry. Drought could spread.

However, it is wrong that typhoon only makes destruction. Sometimes the rainfall caused by a typhoon could eliminate droughts.

f.Something interesting about typhoon【部分台风常识】

*The central pressure of a typhoon might be as low as 870hpa, about 86 percent of a standard atmosphere.【中心最低气压的极值】

*The maximum wind speed of a typhoon can reach higher than 65m/s(125knots), and it occurs near the center of the typhoon, which we call “the eye of the typhoon”.   【风眼附近，风力极其猛烈】

* At the center or saying “eye” of a typhoon, there is often no wind, though around it there is very severe wind.【眼区无风】

* Typhoon’s level contains Tropical Storm(TS), Severe Tropical Storm(STS), Typhoon(TY). Before a typhoon forms, we often call it a “Tropical Depression(TD)”.【分级】

* The scale of a typhoon can be as large as 1000 kilometers, and can also be as small as only 80 kilometers.【台风尺度】
